'Excuse me, I speak only English... '

Shame on all of us.

My Monday morning did not start on a good note, but thank God for life. Dear blog readers,  I am here again, who missed me? What's going on in your area? Tell me via the comment section. Onyi's burial is coming up in two days time. It's a very difficult period for me, I really wish I could make it to the burial. Let's get straight to the matter.

I used to think that it's cool to anglicise everything. My igbo was anglicised. If I speak igbo, you'll have to talk about it till the end of the day. I won't blame my mum, she tried to teach me, but you know when you don't want to learn igbo because you are a Lagos girl that doesn't want to speak igbo and doesn't travel to the village. I was such a foolish child, 😂
Shame on me and shame on you if you fall under this category. See, foreigners speak their native languages proudly, but in Nigeria, it's not the same. We prefer phonetics that we will not even pronounce correctly to our native language.

Recently, I was in the midst of non-igbos and I wanted to tell my mum something, I couldn't. I didn't know how to, I got stuck.

There is nothing more sexy than speaking English without any phonological interference and speaking your native language without anglicising it. That's the only definition of sexiness I know apart from success of course. Don't make anyone make you feel bad for knowing how to communicate in your native dialect. It is beautiful that you know, don't forget it. Don't pull an Emeka. Don't be ashamed of communicating in your native dialect, it's sexy baby. I'm still learning, I wish I knew better.

Have you ever felt ashamed of communicating in your native dialect? Like your parents speak igbo to you and as the English man or woman that you are, you reply in English? Please, share your experience with us. Have a mind-blowing week ahead.

Yes oh, if I had known better I would have learnt my language better.... Or at least a language.. . I stay in Lagos.. As in I was born there.... Yoruba I can't speak or hear sef.. .. And my own native language, speaking is really anglicised. Although I hear perfectly. Honestly am on it. As per learning to speak my dialect fluently. We all need to.

I'm Igbo. I speak Igbo not so good and I don't feel great about it to be honest. I can communicate in Igbo fairly but I still want more. I started to communicate in Igbo this year. People would laugh and all, but I'm open to learning better. Lived in Lagos q long time now but I don't speak Yoruba. I even took the subject in school but I still don't speak it. I think it has to do with not having people around to practice with. I speak French and German fairly (3/10). God help me.

P. S I don't understand what I typed too, but I hope you do.
